Don't Fry Use a Skin Tanner

By Lorna Hillier

This content on using a skin self tanner is a guide to having a fabulous golden tan instead of subjecting yourself to dangerous skin damage.

With the increasing worry over skin cancer, which kills thousands of people annually, people have shifted focus to cosmetic products that create the same visual effect with no risks at all.

The changing of fashion caused by Coco Chanel towards having golden tanned skin has made self tanners popular. Now it is possible to have a honey colored tan without the risks associated with sun-baking.

It is necessary that the younger generation become aware of the dangers of sun damage and realize there are other non destructive options available and they don't have to risk their skin like the older generations have.

An eighteen year old can now achieve a lovely tan using a self tanning product rather than subjecting their skin to the damage from the sun. The darkest tan possible is very much within reach using a quality cosmetic product that will not irritate or damage the skin in any way whatsoever.

All is not necessarily rosy when using a self tanner, especially if it is applied wrongly. Shocking tales of blotchy skin and orange palms make some people reluctant to try this product.

Tips for using a self tanner for the best possible results -

* For a more even color, a week before tanning start exfoliating and moisturizing your skin daily.

* Use the self tanner lightly on the elbows, knuckles and knees as the skin is thicker and will end up darker.

* Before using the skin self tanner, coat petroleum jelly on your hairline and eyebrows to prevent darkening.

* To prevent staining your hands, wash your hands directly after applying the self tanner or wear gloves.

Rules For After Applying a Skin Tanner

* Wait much longer than the "few minutes" recommended by many self tanners before dressing or getting into bed to reduce the chance the solution rubbing off and also staining your clothes.

* Avoid exercising (sweating), showering or swimming for six hours or more

* Be aware of possible accidents that could ruin your clothes and always read the paper work.

I hope you observe these tips as you will see what an improvement your self tanning efforts will be.

Now that you have finished this article don't you agree that sun baking is not worth the risk of skin cancer and early wrinkles, especially when self tanners are so readily available and effective? - 15438
