Weightlifting Fitness for Better Health

By Paul Williams

Getting fit can be difficult, particularly if you've spent the last few years (or decades!) putting off fitness until tomorrow. Well, your fitness is not something that can keep waiting. Your health depends on it.

Being fit does not mean that you have to run a 5 hour ultra marathon in world record time. It simply means that your heart and body can handle an increased heart rate and that your lungs are fit and healthy. The rest of your body benefits from regular exercise too. Your weight will decrease once you take up exercise.

What's the quickest and easiest way to staying fit and keeping weight off? Spending hours in the gym can't be the only way to do this.

Swimming, running, or biking, in fact, any cardio exercise is vital to both heart and lungs. But by adding a weightlifting fitness program to your routine, you'll be able to lose weight and get fit much faster.

Before you think about turning into the Hulk, don't panic! Weight lifting has been a proven exercise for a great number of years and has many benefits:

-When you build muscle, you drop weight faster by burning a larger amount of fat, even when you sleep!

- You gain bone strength.

-You'll have more energy and have a stronger body.

Weightlifting fitness is done either at the gym or at home, depending on your preferences and circumstances. If you decide to go the home route, all you will need to start is a simple set of weights such as a barbell or dumbbells.

By starting with a weight that is manageable and not too heavy and progressing only when you are ready, You'll see changes in muscle definition and body shape in a few short weeks

Although weight lifting can produce dramatic results in a short time frame, don't drop your cardio workouts. They are very important to your body. Try for a mixture of 50-50 by alternating weight and cardio workouts.

A routine you may like to try is a 30 minute cardio workout in the morning when you first get out of bed (or at least close to it). Go for a bike ride or a jog around the block a few times, maybe even a dip in the pool. Pick up your weights in the afternoon or evening. Just remember not to work the same muscles on consecutive days. Your muscles need to rebuild themselves and get stronger. By constantly breaking them down, you don't give them a chance to rest and grow. - 15438
