Find Out What Causes Acne And How To Get Rid of It

By Dan da Silva

Acne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide and a general misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. In fact nearly 90 percent of people suffer from acne sometime in their lifetime and while acne is dreaded, it usually shows up during our teenage years and fortunately, many people outgrow it.

While the naturally occurring oil we produce called sebum does in fact clog the hair follicles, it is not the only substance to blame for the condition of acne and neither is oily skin either. The oil clogged inside the pore, not on the outside of the skin is what makes a pimple although acne is more of a contemporary problem and not a condition people in the past generally had to worry about.

Fortunately acne can be treated and one off the many causes of this condition is the hormone adjustments made when a person is growing up although it can also be as a result of makeup that has not been removed fully or pollution. Even out diet can play a part in the cause of acne as much of our diet today is made up of unhealthy processed foods.

When people have more stubborn cases of acne it is left to a dermatologist to prescribe a stronger remedy which may require a longer period of use. Having a dermatologist treat the condition is not such a bad idea as he or she will be able to better check on how well the treatment is he prescribed. The fingernails are the acne sufferer's biggest problem as bacteria can cause further infection of the already sensitive area so it is important that the acne is not aggravated any further.

This means that fingernails need to be kept clean and not dismissed because they look clean as almost all bacteria and germs are invisible to the naked human eye. To be on the safe side it is always wiser for an acne victim not to touch any of their pimples with their hands just in case.

Unfortunately, acne does seem to have a hereditary link so if you mother and father had acne ten you will also probably suffer as well, bearing in mind that the number of individuals with perfect skin in the world is very low. By far the biggest reason for acne is when a youth child enters into puberty and the change in hormone levels associated with that period.

While opinions vary on the subject, it cannot hurt to contact a dermatologist if you are having a problem with acne or other skin complaint. This article is based on information readily available but should be used as a guide only, so if you are unsure, contact a medical professional about your condition. - 15438
