Finding Fashionable Clothing for Your Son

By Katie Wilber

Over the course of the last century boys clothing changed a lot. In the early 1900's boys were generally dressed up as much as little girls, even in dresses. Granted, there were a few sailor outfits being worn by little boys, but there were also a lot of boys clothing adorned with lace and silk. As time went on, boys clothing got less formal and pretty bleak.

All of a sudden the clothes available for baby boys and little boys were limited to jeans, khakis, t-shirts, and baseball caps. We've all heard mothers-to-be exclaim, "I want a little girl, so I can dress her up. Dressing up boys is no fun."

Boys clothing used to be made in simple fabrics with very limited color schemes. Finding anything cute or out of the ordinary was a very difficult task. We may not put boys in dresses or pigtails anymore, but the options available to them have come a very long way in the last decade.

Designers have noticed that kids are becoming independent thinkers earlier than ever. They are no longer just focusing on fashion for young girls. Boys can and want to be just as fashionable as girls these days. Boys want their own style, and the designers are finally giving them options with original, quirky, and colorful clothes for both boys and girls.

From Target and Sears to boutique designers like Sweet Potatoes and Knuckleheads, the industry has taken notice of the need to make fashionable boys clothing. It's no longer an acceptable excuse to claim that shopping for boys is no fun.

If you have a little rock-and-roller running around your house, you should have no problem finding him a fashionable wardrobe to compliment his personality. Even department stores are now carrying rock star and graphic t-shirts, along with up-to-date jeans that are comparable in style with the selection that young girls are offered.

Boys don't have to be part of a sports team to wear jerseys and other athletic wear anymore. Walk into any store and you will find sport inspired hoodies, t-shirts, and even casual polo shirts. Whether your boy just likes the feel and style, or is a diehard fan of a team, the options are nearly endless. Expectant parents can even find sports inspired newborn clothing.

Not only has fashionable clothing become popular for boys, but now they also have shoes and accessories available to them.

Fashionable boy's shoes can be found at department stores, chain shoe stores, and online stores. It doesn't matter if your boy likes casual shoes, boots, or skating (skateboarding) shoes. All the styles are available to him at the local mall and online.

From cargo pants to athletic wear, and from rocker t-shirts to sweaters, young boys have nearly as many style choices as young girls. Boys can still run around in their t-shirts, jeans, and baseball caps if they want, but at least now they have options. - 15438
