Dogs And Tramopline Workouts Don't Mix

By Jane Bracken

I'm trying to get into shape this year, and my mind is firmly set on it. But that's not an easy thing to do, if you're way past 30, when you gave birth to two kids within a gap of fifteen months. We have a small lake near our house that I tried swimming in, and in the evenings, I took a walk with my sons sitting in their double strollers. It helped beat the Georgia summer, and got me to loose a few pounds. But winter came and all those ideas went down the drain. The icy lake isn't much fun to swim in, and over the last few months, my fast growing sons can't use the stollers anymore.

I loved the walking and the swimming. But that isn't going to work anymore. I had to find another way to continue exercising in the winters. And that's when I stumbled upon trampoline
workouts. It's an activity that i can do with my sons, and gain a little shape everyday. Fun and work, all in one!

We bought a trampoline for our sons about a year ago. They were having so much fun with it, and all the jumping and rolling began to strengthen their muscles. That's when i realized that I could use it too. It's an excellent way for me to spend more time with the boys, and jumping is a good exercise too!

But we had trouble keeping up that fun routine too. It was our little yellow Labrador pup Tinker. We bought the pup so our old dog won't feel lonely. Tinker was such a joy to be with. She was cute, and we all loved her. She became best friends with our dog, and with our sons, and she was like Mary's little lamb. She followed us where ever we went, even to the trampoline. oh oh !

It is actually pretty funny to see Tinker, standing up on her little puppy legs with those giant paws, trying to grab the floor of the trampoline as the boys roll around on it. I have nightmares about her getting a tooth stuck in it though, should she ever catch a piece of it.

Tinker is toothing, and we all know that a puppy that is toothing, is dangerous to everything around the house. I'm at my wits' end trying not to let her get to the trampoline. If she chews through my exercise-cum-play equipment, there goes my workout plan! The boys will be devastated, and I cannot afford to spend another new trampoline right now.

So we tried some remedies to keep her away. My dad sent us a soft plastic snow fence from the North. But it didn't work very well. Tinker started chewing it too. Next we sprayed the fence with a pepper spray. But the rain came and washed it all away. After many such failed attempts, we finally found a solution. Simply fixing chicken wire around the trampoline worked! We even
made it look nice by planting flower beds around the mesh.

Since then, we've had no trouble with Tinker. She eventually gave up chewing the chicken mesh. But the jumping didn't stop, and a few flowers got hurt. But it was no big deal. It would have been more trouble if Tinker made holes in the trampoline floor. Now my workouts continue, and the kids are still having fun. - 15438
