Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil and Depression

By Dr. Bill

The phone rang in my Long Island study two weeks ago. Turned out an old friend of mine hadn't been feeling too happy so he went to his family practitioner. But the medication he got just made him feel worse.

He wanted a second opinion, and I've never been one to hold back. However I'm also hesitant to countermand another physician's advice. After all, I don't have the full story, nor a patient examination. But he was a good friend of mine so I made an exception.

I asked him a few questions and he gave me the whole story. After thinking things over, I sent him back to his doctor with some advice. And once he saw the doctor and told him the rest of the story, as well as ask the right questions, he got the same advice I gave him.

And I'm glad he did.

Initially, his doctor had put him on anti-depressants, and while anti-depressants are exactly the right medicine for some, they are not the right call for others.

What I advised my friend was to get the whole story out. Many times, doctors only get the story the patient wants to tell, and what they leave out can be critically important. This lack of information affects the diagnosis, and what medications and protocols are prescribed.

After listening to my friend for about half an hour, I determined that he had a few things affecting his life that he needed to change.

1. He needed to get more sunlight. And I'm not kidding. Sunlight is essential for a good mood, and working indoors can make getting sun harder than ever. My advice was 20 minutes once per day.

2. He wasn't getting enough exercise. I advised him to start walking 20 minutes a day to start, and to work toward 45 minutes. When he hits that goal, I'll advise him on what to do next.

3. My friend had to cut his drinking by 75%.

4. He had to change his diet. More vegetables and fruits, and take it easy on the red meat.

5. He needs to start taking an ultra pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil, which will support his health, as well as his mood and emotion. In numerous studies, it has been shown, time and again, that fish oil supports cognitive function and neurological healing.

His body needs balance.

But he's not getting it by drinking too much, eating like a lion in the wild, not exercising, and staying inside.

The changes his family physician and I outlined will make a big difference in a short time. And that's the key to great health. Getting started now. - 15438
